Dream Signs: Myths
Here we will take a look at a few of the myths cooked up over the years, and explain why they are unlikely to be true.
1. If you see a lion in a dream, it signifies danger or obstacles.
Now we should ask ourselves how this can be justified, perhaps you as a person are very fond of lions as animals, or perhaps you watched an interesting documentary on them before falling asleep. Much of this dream sign information you will find is simply there to take up space.
2. Everything we see in a dream means something.
To an extent this one could be seen as partially truthful, as from a scientific viewpoint all of our dream signs are developed within our own minds. However the common opinion is that during the dream state it is rare for our minds to try and tell us something of severe importance. There are certain occasions when dream signs will try and tell us something - but to say that everything in a dream is of importance must be classed as incorrect.
3. Nightmares are fictional.
Let me clarify the meaning of this statement which I have seen written in several books, it states that nightmares or "bad dreams" are simply a random product of the mind - based completely on fiction. Most people will believe anything if it has been written down, however this is another myth which is simply absurd, both science and spiritualism support the idea that nightmares are spawned from very real things, such as past traumas or fear of what the future will bring, and occasionally even repressed memories become the subject of our worst nightmares. The dream signs seen in nightmares are perhaps the most potent available to us without lucidity, they are often based on actual fears and rarely composed from random thought.
4. If you have nothing on you're mind, you will not dream.
Another absurd statement, it is scientifically proven that every human dreams every night while sleeping, this myth is sometimes promoted by spiritualism - perhaps for the reason that if someone were to believe this statement fully, they would possibly have no dream recall at all.
